Bras for Wedding Gown

Every dress is as unique as the bride who wears it, from the gown itself, to the custom alterations done, to the accessories worn. One of the most important questions you’ll encounter during your first alterations appointment will be, “What undergarments do you plan on wearing?” OR “What Bra do you plan to wear with your Wedding Gown?” And, chances your trusty standby strapless bra won’t fit the bill for the most important gown of your life. If you have no clue where to start, you’re in luck! As the premier choice of Dallas wedding alterations, we carry just about every undergarment under the sun and are happy to help guide you to the appropriate choice from our wide selection of undergarments! Some great examples of our available Bras for Wedding Gowns, BELOW…

First things first, let’s talk petals (and no, we don’t mean your florist). Petals are small, sticky adhesive circles designed to give you modest coverage. Petals come in one-size-fits-all, and trust us when we say our friends across the entire bust spectrum will find them a perfect fit. They’re ideal under backless or illusion dresses because they’re sheer, oversized, and taper well to ensure they blend under your dress.

Bras for Wedding Gown

Plunge Adhesive Bra

Ready to take the plunge? Our plunge adhesive bra is a busty gals best friend! This adhesive bra features matte side wings that blend perfectly under illusion dresses and a plunging neckline to fit a wide variety of gown styles. The wire shaping will keep you in place all night long and there are a large range of sizes available, from B-H. This is the Serena Williams of the sticky bra world (the #GOAT).

Bras for Wedding Gown

Plunge Adhesive Cups

Bridal style continues to evolve and as it does, so does the world of bridal undergarments.. With the rise of stunning illusion gowns, this bra has quickly become our #1 seller. It offers metal underwire for support in a c-shape for cupping the chest with support, and it’s the most amount of coverage that you can get with the least amount of bra showing. It’s backless and comes in sheer and opaque versions that are both unable to be seen under illusion dress panels. Generally, this is a great option for v-neck, backless, low cut, sheer, or illusion gowns.

Voluptuous Lift Bra

With a name like voluptuous lift bra, you can only guess how incredible this bra makes you look and feel! This bra is designed with metal underwire to give you the support of a traditional bra, but features sheer straps and separated cups to sit perfectly under open back and strapless gowns or plunging necklines. The cups will adhere to your chest, while the matte straps pull over your shoulder for maximum support.

Sticky Boobs

When you think of the original ‘sticky boobs,’ you’re definitely thinking of this adhesive bra. It’s a classic staple for a reason. This adhesive bra sticks perfectly in place and snaps in the middle, giving you lift and an adjustable amount of cleavage. This is a great option for backless and strapless gowns.

Boob Glue

Boob Glue by Bosom Couture is something really special (so special, in fact, that we’re the exclusive Downtown Dallas retailer). The best way we can describe it is a roll-on adhesive that lifts you and keeps your gown in place, but that honestly doesn’t do it justice. Interested in seeing how it works on a wedding dress? Classic Corset

If there’s ever a time to live out your princess dreams, it’s your wedding! Enter: the corset. This garment has been around forever (since the 1500s to be exact) but don’t be fooled. The reason corsets have been around this long is because they WORK. Corsets can be used under a large range of gowns, but we typically use them under ball gowns or mermaids to provide support. The size range available is incredible, going up to a 56H. If we don’t have your size readily available, it can be shipped to our store within a week!

Wedding Gown Bras

Short-Waisted Corset

Much like the original corset, this short waisted version offers coverage, support, and structure for your gown. This version features a short waist and lower back, which is best suited for ball gowns and strapless gowns.

And, of course, we can create an entirely customized option for you by sewing in cups or adding additional gown enhancements to offer a more comfortable, custom experience. Our job is to make sure that you look (and feel) your best and most supported on your big day. We can’t wait to meet you and get started!

Book your appointment with us today and don’t hesitate to reach out to our team if you have any questions. Or contact us if you have more questions on your bras for wedding gown.

What’s Really Under the Dress?

Dallas wedding alterations

Dallas Wedding Alterations

Dallas Wedding Alterations

At Altered for the Altar, we are so excited to be able to altar your dream wedding dress! As the premier choice of Dallas wedding alterations, we have lots of tips for brides-to-be. One of the most important, and often not thought about is how important your undergarments are for your big day. Depending on the type of dress, certain choices might be necessary and others might be more comfortable. We are here to help you navigate through choosing the perfect undergarments.

  • First, make sure that you are choosing the right bra for your gown. If you have a strapless dress, you may consider wearing a strapless bra, a corset, or one of the many other options we can customize for you instead of a bra.
  • For panties, wear a pair that is “no-show.” You should especially wear nude, no-show underwear if your dress is more form fitting and would reveal panty lines. In addition to the color, in many cases, panties serve as Shapewear, helping your dress fit right and your body look the way you want it to. In many cases, our brides will come in feeling frustrated after purchasing uncomfortable (expensive) items online that aren’t the right fit for their body or dress. We always suggest coming to your first fitting, and discussing the best option before making any purchases. We carry a large selection of undergarments, made specifically for bridal wear, and can help you find the best fit for your dress and body.
  • Lastly, make sure that you are comfortable! You will be standing, walking, and dancing all day, so be sure that no matter what undergarments you choose,  you are comfortable in them and everything fits how it should. You don’t want to wear anything too loose or too tight, causing tugging or unflattering fits in your photos.

What to Know About Your First Fitting

DFW Wedding Alterations

DFW Wedding Alterations

You’ve chosen the perfect dress for your wedding day, and now its time to go to your choice in DFW wedding alterations, Altered for the Altar! We have a few tips on what to know about your first fitting that you may not have thought of.

  • When you get to your first fitting, one of the first things that you’ll do is put on your dream dress. The thing is, it probably won’t fit exactly how you saw it in the store with all of the clamps on it. Don’t freak out if your dress doesn’t fit right away! That is what we are here for. Talk us through how you envision it looking, how you saw it in the store, and how you want it to look. We will be making your dream dress a reality.
  • Bring the right accessories to your fitting! Bring the veil that you plan on wearing, any jewelry, and especially your shoes so that we know your height. Be ready to look through our full inventory of the current trends in bridal undergarments. We have the largest selection on site for any bridal, seamstress, or retailer because we are the only ones who stock specifically only bridal lingerie! The undergarments that you wear on your wedding day are so important because it will affect how your dress falls and sits on you. When you come to us, we will size you for your undergarments with your dress present! This makes all the difference; you will want to have everything sized perfectly for this investment. We have nearly unlimited options for you to look at at our store for you to choose from.
  • Before or at your first fitting, we will walk through and customize a plan to fit your specific needs for all of your alterations. In total, you should have an average of 3 fittings for your DFW wedding. The first should be around 2-3 months out from your wear date. The second, about one month out, and then have your final one around 2 weeks out in order to perfect everything! This timeline is just a sample of an average timeline, but we work with any timeline! Your fitting timeline should be with your first wear date in mind, whether that is your big day or your bridal portraits.

At Altered for the Altar, we are so excited to be a part your big day! For more information on alterations or scheduling an appointment, feel free to reach out to us.

“Never change who you are so that other people will like you. Just be yourself and the right people will love you just for being you.” –Unknown

For years now, I have been criticized for being too blunt… although mostly by my mom. (She will want me to include that this is partially due to a few of my sailor-like habits.) But, recently I have noticed more and more people commending and thanking me for my honesty. While I am still surprised/concerned that this is praise worthy, I am going to take full advantage of this opportunity to express myself. Most people think the more struggles you admit to, the weaker you are. To be represented as strong, you must hide all of your inner struggle truths. I have a few problems with this. Mainly, I don’t hide anything well and the phrase, “Shut up and look pretty,” never really worked for me. But, in order to be honest about yourself and your struggles, you have to be 100% vulnerable, 100% of the time.
So here’s my truth.
Up until last night when I had an epiphany, (FINE. An ugly cry melt down that rivals the likes of Kim K), the idea of planning a wedding made me nauseous, agitated, sad, mad, angry and CRAZY. “But, wait,” you say, “Didn’t you like JUST get engaged?!.” YEAH, sister, I did. And immediately following the BEST proposal night EVER, I was overcome with this variety of emotions I did not want to deal with. I’ve struggled for the last month to even want to talk about my future wedding. Every negative thought I had just made me feel more and more guilty. I truly WANTED to be happy. I WANTED wedding planning to be fun. BUT, I have spent my whole life in the wedding industry and I know all too well some of the ups and DOWNS that come with wedding planning.
And you want to know the hardest truth to stomach?!
I don’t want to drain my closest family and friends of money and energy.
I don’t want to spend the next year and a half fighting with my mom.
I DON’T want to become “THAT” person.
…You know what I do want?
I want to wake up every day for the rest of my life staring at my best friend.
I want to build a future and family with him.
I want to spend every day honoring this man that I love. Because he is THE greatest person I have ever known.
I want to wake up in 50 years, griping with that same old man, arguing about why some of us STILL feel the need to shop in bulk. (.0001 savings per use does NOT constitute a year’s supply of toilet paper)
I want to fight, cry, grow, learn and LIVE with this man EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. For the rest of my life.
And now that I’ve decided this, and accepted the fact that my toilet seat will forever be upright, I want to

Got swept up by a Cowboy, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

So why is this such a problem?
I’ll tell you why: EXPECTATIONS. If I have to hear, “OMG, I cannot wait to see what your wedding is going to be like after growing up in the bridal world!!” or “I can just imagine, you are going to have the most picturesque wedding ever,” one more time, I might full blown HONESTLY lose it. I know people mean well, I really really do, but a BIG ornate “drain Rodney Calvert of every penny he has left after raising me” wedding, AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN! A bunch of you probably just sighed, feeling bad for me, because my daddy won’t buy me the biggest pink pony. Guess what?! That man would buy me an entire rainbow pony farm, (and then live in a box), if he knew I wanted it. So then why?
I spent the last month trying to wrap my mind around all of these expectations, and judgements. I was trying to find a way to conform to these preconceived “Wedding Must” Notions.
You know what I finally realized?
No matter how many flowers my daddy buys me, they will die the next day.
If someone brings me a filet mignon on my wedding day, I’m going to wish it was mac n’ cheese.
If I wake up the day after my wedding with perfect makeup, I’m going to wish I had sweated it all off on the dance floor to Rhianna.
I don’t even like cake, but I will gladly get it smacked into my face.
Even after I design, build and make my own wedding dress, I’ll bet you $100 right now you can find me at Jack ‘N the Box, barefoot, dancing in the parking lot, drowning in Cat Nip Tacos, after my wedding.
So go on and hate, and go on and act all “BOUGIE.” BUT, a big fancy wedding? That just isn’t me.

But, prancing around in a ‘stache and this shameless shirt last year for my Birthday, yeah this is me 100%.
(P.S. I turn old enough to round up to 30 in one week. CRYING.)

I hope and pray that when this is all over I walk away with torn up feet, sore muscles, sweaty hair, a dirty dress (SORRY MOM!), an epic video of me singing Celine Dion, and a lifetime of MEMORIES, as strong as the bond I have with the man who helped make them.
From here on out, I am going to be blogging my unique way through wedding planning. All of the DIY projects I will attempt, and inevitably fail a few (I will post those fails too!). My new healthy lifestyle…… ***Month Long Crash Diet because, CHERRY PIE.*** I hope you will join and support me in this adventure, but I warn you it may involve me in a wedding dress, eating mac n’ cheese out of a solo cup.
Because in the real world, Jell-O always trumps Crème Brule.

This Blog is dedicated to my parents, because they ALWAYS pushed me to think different, act different, and BE different. They taught me to view life as a giant puzzle that ALWAYS has a possible outcome. And (even when I would fight/cry this one) they taught me my first idea was just a rough draft to spark a bigger and brighter idea. If they would not have criticized (FINE. “Coached” as they always say) me to be a smarter, stronger, more creative person; I wouldn’t have the confidence to go out in the world as a uniquely thriving creative weirdo.
Thanks for inspiring me to be weird guys. I love you for it, really.
BEST Examples of what Marriage is all about right here!!
Both my parents (on the right) ROD “Money Banks” Calvert and Momma and my future in-laws (on the left) Angie and Mark Halfmann. Both couples have been married for over 30 years. They have both had there fair share of trials, but this crew is tough, hardworking, compassionate, and determined. If we are half of what these peeps are, we will be WAY ahead of the curve.
And of course, I couldn’t leave out our BOMB siblings. I FINALLY get two AMAZING sisters. (You both are better than the ones I pretended I had when I was younger) and J gets two baby brothers!
